Art and Activism

The sixth grade through middle school classes started Trimester Two discussing the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sixth grade students were also studying teen activism in class. This led to discussions about activism today and the role that art can play in social justice movements. I asked the students to think about issues that are important to them, and brainstorm ways that art might be able to make an impact on the problems they see in the world. Students posted relevant work on campus to make an impact on their immediate community of peers.
